How to Make a Chocolate Cake at Home

script>

Wave goodbye to cake mixes that come in a box. Why use a box to make a cake when you can use a homemade chocolate cake recipe? When you put all the ingredients in yourself, you know exactly what's going to end up on your table afterwards, and that's more than worth the little extra effort that it takes to prepare a chocolate cake recipe from scratch. On top of that, everyone knows a homemade chocolate cake recipe is going to taste a lot better than what comes out of a box. Chances are you already have most of the ingredients too.

 Necessary ingredients:

 1/2 cup butter or margarine

 2 cups sugar

 3 medium eggs

 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

 3 squares baker's chocolate

 2 cups flour

 2 tsp baking soda

 1/2 tsp salt

 1 cup sour cream

 1 cup boiling water

 Preparation instructions:

 1. Mix together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl.

 2. Crack the eggs into the bowl and continue to mix.

 3. Add the vanilla and chocolate and mix vigorously.

 4. Add the remaining ingredients. (It helps to sift the dry ingredients.) Use an electric beater if you have one handy as it will make this process much easier.

 5. Pour the mixture into a lightly greased baking pan.

 6. In a preheated oven at 350°F, bake the cake batter for 35 minutes. Keep an eye on it near the end.

A few notes regarding allergic reactions and lifestyle preferences.

Vegans: Some vegans' prefer not to consume butter or margarine or even eggs and sour cream. As these ingredients represent a major portion of the recipe I'd suggest avoiding this particular recipe. I've created number of alternate recipe's for Vegan's which can be found on the Cake Recipe Secrets website.

Celiac's: Rice flour is an alternative however it does make the batter thinner resulting in a dryer baked product. Nuts: Whilst the recipe is nut-free some people may choose to add them for their texture. My recommendation would be walnuts or even almonds.

The almonds should be thinly sliced and pealed. Also, if time is an issue and you need some type of icing then a thin layer of double cream with a drizzle of honey is the best short-cut.

Once your cake has finished baking, simply remove it from the oven to cool down. Before it's completely cooled, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious combination.
